Procion MX dyes are cold-water dyes in a range of fabulous colours.

Instead of using heat, a chemical reaction fixes the dye. This makes Procion MX different from other dyes and so popular for all home dyeing techniques, tie-dye, batik, Shibori, ice dyeing, immersion in low water or tub, sprinkle dyeing, direct painting, gradation/ombre dyeing, printing, and other dye methods.

The concentrated dye powder is mixed with tap water, resulting in vibrant colours when used on natural fibres, such as cotton, linen, canvas, hemp, jute, ramie, sisal, paper, and more, and even suitable for semi-synthetic fibres such as rayon. If acidified, it can then be used successfully on protein-based fibres like wool.

Procion MX forms a strong chemical bond as a fibre-reactive dye, making it one of the most wash-fast and permanent dyes available.

A commonly used fixative with Procion MX dyes is soda ash. Add the Soda Ash to the dye bath directly or use it on the fabric to pre-treat as a “batch Setting” or tie-dyeing technique. Commonly a single bottle will dye almost half a kilogram of fabric. Bear in mind that bright colours will require more, but pastels will need less.
